The distinct rattle of the Diamondback’s black and white tail will stop you in your tracks and send chills up your spine. This venomous desert dweller keeps us on guard in dry, rocky grasslands. They have distinct diamond shapes and their back, a triangular shaped head, and a black, forked tongue.
Slow growing in a squatty tubular shape with spiky ribs, the barrel cactus grow a vibrant array of colorful blooms on their crowns. These sun lovers provide refreshment and joy to the Arizona desert inhabitants.
Breweries are a great way to gather and hang out with friends and family. Arizona has over 125 breweries, the oldest being Barrio Brewing Company which opened in 1991. A cold Arizona beer is the perfect pour anytime.
Numerous species of hummingbirds make their home in Arizona. These tiny, colorful and speedy birds are fun to encounter in the back yard or in the wilderness and mesmerizing to watch. Enjoy them quickly before they zip away!
While destructive yet adorable, the javelina is a distant relative of the pig, called a peccaries. Most live in central and southern Arizona. They are social omnivores who live in groups called squadrons adore the prickly pear.
Every once in a while, a good road trip can refresh the soul, especially in Arizona where one can explore the national and state parks and forests, and Arizona’s six major biomes: desert, grassland, chaparral, woodland, forest and tundra.
Cinco de Mayo is the celebration of Mexico defeating the French in the 1862 Battle of Puebla, securing Mexico and the United States from continued French invasion. This holiday is celebrated on May 5, symbolizing Mexico’s determination to defeat foreign aggression. Look closely to find Puebla on the map.
