The Gila Monster is a rare sighting as it lives most of it’s life underground in burrows. This venomous lizard is native to the Southwest and can grow up to two feet long. It is quite spectacular to come across a Gila Monster. Be kind because this reptile is a protected species.

The bobcat has a large population in the Sonoran Desert. These quiet solitary creatures, twice the size of a housecat with a short tail, are stealthy hunters. Often a bobcat will wander through an urban area, across the front patio, the back yard or sip out of the swimming pool on a hot day. And, yes, they purr.
Many Arizonans treasure cabin life in the cooler areas of the state, especially during summertime and holidays. Escaping to the cabin keeps friends and family together while enjoying different environments and wildlife.
The Sonoran Desert comes alive in the springtime. Blossoms of all colors vibrantly crown cacti and the landscape as the canyons run with melting snow from the mountains to support new life.
