Endless dark big skies are a gift to the forty-eight astronomical observatories in Arizona. Some of these facilities have numerous telescopes for research, stargazing, education and discovery.
Arizona isn’t all desert but it does have plenty of sunshine. Boating enthusiasts will find numerous lakes and rivers for boating, watersports, kayaking, sailing, houseboating and simply being on and in the water, to play and cool off.
Arizona is home to over fifty lizard species, including desert, spring, tree, horned, whiptailed, and geckoes. Speedy and entertaining, many perform what looks like a human push-up to protect its territory or impress a potential mate.
The prickly pear cactus is a flat, spiny paddled, blossoming cactus that can grow up to twenty feet. This colorful cactus has expanded to over 150 unique varieties. Animals and humans enjoy the prickly pear fruit for food, jams, syrups and beverages
Thanks to the agave, any flavor of margarita is a poolside refresher at any time of the year in Arizona.
Roadrunners are a joy to watch run and fly all year in the deserts of Arizona. This member of the cuckoo family can speed fifteen miles per hour while hunting lizards, snakes and rodents. They seem comfortable near humans, as hikers, walkers and golfers often view the roadrunner up close.
The desert cottontail have large ears to hear predators and to regulate their body temperature. This white-tailed and bouncy bunny can reach speeds of over nineteen miles per hour and enjoys snacking on desert fruits.
Arizona is a camping destination at all elevations. The State Parks and National Forests have over 300 campgrounds for rest and relaxation for every age of camper and every season.
Every July 4th, families and friends gather with food and fireworks to celebrate the independence of our great nation. A fireworks display explodes over A-Mountain for Tucson to enjoy.
