Tucson hosts El Tour de Tucson, known as one of the premier bicycling events in the country. This race is always greatly anticipated with its numerous events and family friendly environment. Arizona is home to road and mountain biking courses and races for bike enthusiasts.
Mariachi music is a lively and uniquely Mexican sound created with stringed instruments and trumpets. The mariachi dresses in the attire of the cowboys of Jalisco with ornamental trousers, wide bow tie, sombrero and a short jacket. In the 1940s, women also became mariachi musicians sharing this festive tradition!

Snow lovers don’t have to leave the state to enjoy downhill winter slopes. Arizona is home to Snowbowl, Sunrise Park and Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley, welcoming every age and level of skier to enjoy the cool views.
The Gila Monster is a rare sighting as it lives most of it’s life underground in burrows. This venomous lizard is native to the Southwest and can grow up to two feet long. It is quite spectacular to come across a Gila Monster. Be kind because this reptile is a protected species.
Winter Solstice occurs on December 21st and is the shortest day of the year. The Kokopelli in the full moon represents fertility and joy to people native to the four corners area, just as the Winter Solstice symbolizes rebirth and new beginnings.

In the darkness of fall or winter, you may hear one of the wide variety of owl species in Arizona hunting or mating, even though you may see an owl during the daytime. These fascinating birds helpfully prey on many pests and rodents and are best observed from a distance.
